Color Values
8/2/09 "Casa Del Mar" By: Janice Anne
Casa Del Mar

This painting is a step by step demo I followed by artist James Toogood which  explains how to capture good perspective and strong contrast color values to achieve depth and the feeling of warmth on a summers day.

Most of this painting is made of many layers of washes allowing each one to dry and sometimes using "optical mixing" for the final color.  The sky was done with many graduating washes.

As each layer dried it tinted a different deeper blue color to achieve this specific desired effect.

Color contrasting values can vary greatly.  Just use a little imagination and keep the experimenting with light to dark graduations.
